CALGARY: Calgary’s National Music Centre held its annual fundraising gala—dubbed “Raise Up! A Celebration of Resilience”—virtually on Dec. 4. The online-only, free event was hosted by country artist Brett Kissel and broadcaster Jackie Rae Greening; it featured performances by a variety of Canadian musicians and included educational elements.
HALIFAX: Not-for-profit historical society Halifax Citadel is running its annual Victorian Christmas event virtually from Nov. 27 to Dec. 20. Every day, the group is sharing different 19th-century Christmas-themed content, including stories, recipes, and crafts, while viewers are encouraged to post photos in their favorite Victorian costumes. The program is raising funds for Feed Nova Scotia.
MONTREAL: On Dec. 14, the Palais de Congrès de Montréal will become the first convention center globally to add three immersive rooms to its permanent facility. The three rooms can host between 30 and 60 people on the Palais’s main floor, and are equipped with 105 laser projectors and 119 surround-sound speakers that allow for customizable, 360-degree projections.
TORONTO: Jestr Events is hosting an interactive Christmas drive-thru experience Dec. 3-27. Located at Square One Shopping Centre, guests are tasked with helping Mrs. Claus find out who has been stealing Santa’s things and scattering them around the North Pole. Tickets are now available and must be purchased in advance.
VANCOUVER: Concord’s inaugural New Year’s Eve fireworks have been canceled due to COVID-19, but organizers are already making plans to ring in 2022. The annual fireworks celebration usually attracts upwards of 100,000 guests.
