ABBOTSFORD, BRITISH COLUMBIA: Abbotsford Centre is one of many venues across Canada and the U.S. that's hosting a virtual comedy festival on Valentine's Day this year. The "Saving Our Jobs" comedy festival is sponsored by Stella Artois and will run from noon to 10 p.m. on Feb. 14; it will be presented locally by Star 98.3 and Country 107.1. Participating comedians include Adam Yenser, Alex Elkin, Justin Rupple and Tashona Smith. Each participating venue is also hosting a local comedy contest, where winners will have video clips posted on the festival's website.
CALGARY: The YYC Hot Chocolate Festival will still take place this February despite restrictions on in-person dining across Canada. During this monthlong event, various restaurants across Calgary serve $1 specialized hot chocolates and $2 boozy hot chocolates, with the proceeds going to Meals on Wheels.
MONTREAL: Local theater Infinithéâtre will host an event called "Fourplay" on Valentine's Day. Hosted by Ellen David, the live, digital event will feature four playwrights and four musicians, each performing their work surrounding the overall theme of love.
The Science Centre is hosting a virtual edition of its Women and Girls in Science event, held in conjunction with the UN International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The all-digital event, which is running from Feb. 1-11, features various keynote speakers as well as videos, activities and articles for both teachers and students.
TORONTO: The Toronto Comic Arts Festival will host a virtual edition May 8-15. The event—which will include a week of on-demand programming where comics and art fans can browse exhibitors' work, watch Q&As, participate in workshops and more—is a partnership with zine festival Canzine and the Toronto Hand Eye Society.
