NATIONAL: The Canadian Ski Marathon is hosting its 55th anniversary virtually. Rather than celebrate the event in Quebec where it usually would be, athletes are being asked to post their times online along with pictures or videos of them skiing from trails at home. The virtual event is open from Feb. 6 to March 7.
Laila Biali, Canadian singer-songwriter, pianist and host of CBC Music's weekly national radio show "Saturday Night Jazz," will perform at this year's Canadian Journalism Foundation awards. The virtual ceremony will take place June 9, and it will honor those who have made exceptional contributions to journalism as well as recognize emerging talent.
CALGARY: Calgary's new Chinook Blast Festival will feature a series of art and light displays in the downtown core at Municipal Plaza, Olympic Plaza, Stephen Avenue and Barclay Mall. The festival, which runs Thursdays through Sundays from Feb.13-28, will also include pop-up art installations throughout the city and other virtual events and activities.
TORONTO: Cluedupp's latest outdoor detective game, The Toronto Ripper, is taking place May 8. Billed as a "city-wide murder-mystery game," the app-based activity will challenge teams to complete puzzles and find clues around the city. Tickets are $51 for a team of up to six people.
VANCOUVER: The City of Surrey is borrowing $150 million to build three major recreation centers: a community center in Newton, a sports and ice complex in Cloverdale and another sports complex in Surrey's city center. The projects are expected to take about 18 to 20 months to complete.
