CANADA: RBC Canadian Open Canceled, Plus Updates on Juno Awards, Canadian Independent Music Awards and More

NATIONAL: The RBC Canadian Open, originally slated for June 7-13 in Toronto, has been canceled for the second consecutive year. Golf Canada made the announcement in partnership with the PGA Tour and main sponsor RBC, citing COVID-19-related issues. At the moment, CP Women’s Open is still scheduled for Aug. 26-29.

The third annual Canadian Independent Music Video Awards will take place virtually March 13. The event will highlight Canada's best music videos, decided with input from more than 20,000 Canadians and a team of judges. There will also be a variety of performances, speeches and prizes.

Nominees for the Juno Awards were announced during a virtual press conference this week. The Weeknd scored six nominations, followed by Justin Bieber and Jessie Reyez, who each landed five. The Junos, organized by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, will be held virtually and are set to air on the CBC network May 16.

VANCOUVER: Jillian Harris has been announced as the headliner of TEDxWhistler, an independently run nonprofit TED event, this fall. Organized by the group behind TEDxVancouver, the Whistler event will feature an interactive virtual space and a gender-equal stage.

CelticFest Vancouver will host its first virtual festival from March 11-20. There will be an Irish trad session on St. Patrick’s Day and events throughout the week, including a virtual game show and cocktail classes. The free festival will also have a family day with storytelling, music, art and more.
