CANADA: The Breast Cancer Society of Canada’s Virtual Fundraiser, SiriusXM Canada Teams Up With JUNO Awards and More

NATIONAL: The Breast Cancer Society of Canada has announced the 30th anniversary of its annual Mother’s Day Walk, now called the One Billion Steps Challenge, Powered by Cleo. Throughout the month of May, Canadians are invited to walk, run, hike, dance or take a virtual class to collectively reach the goal of one billion steps. Participants are encouraged to share their progress on social media.

SiriusXM Canada will be the lead sponsor of the 2021 JUNO Awards, marking the company’s 15th consecutive year as an award and event sponsor of the show; the brand will present the Artist of the Year, Group of the Year and Comedy Album of the Year categories. The 2021 JUNO Awards will take place on May 14 and 16 and will celebrate this year's most successful Canadian artists and emerging talent.

The Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA) announced that Andrew Cash, a former member of Parliament and a JUNO Award-winning Canadian independent artist, will become the organization's newest president. CIMA is a nonprofit trade association that represents small businesses including record producers, recording studios, music video producers, artists and more. 

CARIBOO, BRITISH COLUMBIA: The annual rodeo celebration Williams Lake Stampede has been canceled for the second year in a row due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event, which has been held since 1919, was originally scheduled for June and July. 

EDMONTON: Last weekend, the virtual Jammin’ for a Cure concert raised more the $40,000 for cancer research throughout its 18-hour duration of free live performances from local, regional, national and international artists. The funds raised will be allocated for Dr. Michael Chu, a clinician scientist at the Cross Cancer Institute, who is researching a new treatment known as Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy.
