NATIONAL: The 2021 Juno Awards have been postponed for a second time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally scheduled to take place in March and then May, the ceremony is now scheduled for June 6. While Toronto will be the main location for the ceremony, awards will be presented and televised from various music venues across the country.
The Breast Cancer Society of Canada (BSCS) has announced a collaboration with female-founded Callia Flowers, an online-only floral company available in over 55 cities across Canada. A portion of the proceeds from select Callia Flowers bouquets will fund life-saving breast cancer research.
Apartment Therapy is hosting a 2021 Small/Cool Contest in partnership with Behr Paint Company. The competition was established in 2005 by CEO Maxwell Ryan with the goal of showcasing the best spaces under 1,000 square feet from around the world. However, with the onset of the pandemic, homes have more meaning and are serving a greater purpose than ever before. The next chance to win the cash prize will be in June. TORONTO: Drag icon Scarlett Bobo is returning to the television screen in Underneath the Empire, a documentary film produced by Absolut Vodka that gives a backstage look at Absolut’s Empire Ball, Toronto’s most inclusive drag competition. The film tells a story of resilience and first debuted at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in December 2019. It is now streaming on OUTtv’s website as well as its Amazon Prime and Apple TV channels.
VANCOUVER: Arts Umbrella, Canada’s learning nonprofit arts education organization for young people, has opened a new 50,000-square-foot education center on Granville Island. Property highlights include six spacious dance studios, four music and film studios equipped with audiovisual technology, 10 art and design studios, a photography darkroom, a 132-seat theater, public exhibition spaces, a dedicated woodworking shop and more.
