CANADA: A New AR Experience, Toronto’s New Concert Series, Tourism Vancouver’s Rebrand and More

NATIONAL: Event management platform Hopin has acquired on-site event solutions company Boomset. The new partnership will allow Hopin to expand beyond virtual events and begin offering on-site technology and services like badges, self-service kiosks and QR code check-in, plus meaningful data insights including session attendance, lead retrieval and full event demographics. Hopin is a multiproduct platform and has a virtual venue, studio and event marketing capabilities available to its users.

DAWSON CITY, YUKON: The Dawson City Music Festival has been postponed for the second year in a row. A smaller version of the event was originally scheduled for July 16-18, but is now officially canceled. The festival is one of the best-known events in Yukon, and this year would have been the 43rd annual show.

TORONTO: Planet Fabulon, an immersive event company, will open an augmented-reality event starting on July 14 and running for four days. Splinter Dimensional is an AR adventure where guests will go on a 15-minute scavenger hunt using their cell phone for QR codes and clues to solve the puzzle. Visitors will be rewarded with a virtual dance experience after completing the challenge. The location is a secret and will be revealed when the event begins. 

Canadian hip-hop icon and Universal Canada record exec Kardinal Offishall is bringing a new concert series to the city. The first installment,  Free the City, will occur on June 30 at the CityView Drive-In. All shows will be free, but Offishall has set up a GoFundMe page to support the performers.

VANCOUVER: Tourism Vancouver is officially rebranding as Destination Vancouver. CEO Royce Chwin recently unveiled the new name and new mandate for the organization, which involves developing experiences and promoting Vancouver to national and U.S markets.
