CANADA: Fort Edmonton Park’s Renovation, Vancouver’s Virtual-Reality Art Experience and More

NATIONAL: ON24 has debuted its latest offering, breakout rooms for virtual conferences. Adding to the platform’s already-existing breakout room options for webinars, the new offering allows for face-to-face audience interactions across all virtual experiences, allowing attendees to easily move between the main event and more intimate one-on-one chats, networking opportunities and more. For events with an in-person component, hybrid breakout rooms can also provide virtual and in-person attendees with the same networking opportunities and grant marketers deeper insights into attendee behavior.

The Critics Choice Association will debut a new global award show starting in 2022. The World Movie Awards will honor the best of non-English language films during the event, which has been in the planning stages for several years. Further dates and details are yet to be announced.

The 19th annual Global Peace Film Festival will take place as a hybrid event in September. Taking place in person in Orlando from Sept. 21-26, it will also be available virtually for attendees around the world from Sept. 27 to Oct. 3. A selection of feature and short films will highlight themes such as civil rights, environmental justice, ethics, wellness and more.

EDMONTON: Fort Edmonton Park reopened to the public on July 1, after being closed for nearly three years to complete $165 million in renovations. Highlights include a new front entry plaza, a new Indigenous Peoples Experience exhibit, a new Ferris wheel and more. Currently, the park is still closed to event rentals due to pandemic-related restrictions.

VANCOUVER: Uninterrupted, a virtual-reality art experience, is coming to Vancouver again this summer. To comply with pandemic-related restrictions, the event will be spread across three outdoor locations, where groups of 20 can experience a 30-minute show. It kicks off at the Vancouver Museum’s garden patio from July 7-11, then will move to Shipyard Commons at Lonsdale Quay from July 14-24 and the Burnaby Art Gallery’s veranda from Aug. 3-13.
