NATIONAL: The Events Industry Council has joined The Code, an initiative to prevent the sexual exploitation of children, with the goal of providing awareness, tools and support to the travel and tourism industry. The new partnership will help establish policies and procedures, train employees, include a clause in contracts, and provide information to travelers on how to prevent and report suspected cases.
GUELPH, ONTARIO: The International Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation (IICSI) at the University of Guelph will host its second 24-hour Improvised Arts Festival on Aug. 13. The free, multidisciplinary festival will be held virtually and feature improvised works by over 150 artists—ranging from musicians and dancers to poets, visual artists and filmmakers—from more than 20 countries.
MONTREAL: The First Peoples Festival, celebrating Indigenous arts and culture, is back for its 31st run. The hybrid event started on Aug. 3 and will be running until Aug. 12; it features 60 film screenings, live concerts at the Place des Festivals, and a variety of other theatrical and visual arts-focused events.
BIG RIVER, SASKATCHEWAN: Electric Sky Music Festival will return this year from Aug. 27-29 at Ness Park, with performers including DJ Dopamine and The Gaff. Masks will be mandatory in all public spaces, and attendees who choose to camp will be required to stay in groups of two to four people. Tickets are on sale now.
VANCOUVER: FLAME, an immersive dining experience where chefs use flame throwers to cook and entertain, is coming to a mystery location in Vancouver on Oct. 28. Tickets are $85 and will include a two-course meal and beverage.
