EDMONTON: The Civic Centre in Leduc will host a Santa Claus drive-thru event on Dec. 11. From the safety of their cars, families will be able to visit with Santa, drop off letters for him and get a cookie kit; donations of warm clothing for the Leduc Jirah Centre are also being accepted. The event is free to attend.
HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA: Muir, Autograph Collection, officially opens tomorrow in the new Queen’s Marque district on the Halifax waterfront. The 109-room hotel has a variety of spaces for events, including a 1,200-square-foot art gallery, a six-seat executive meeting space and a 2,100-square-foot event space with two private bars and a private tasting room.
TORONTO: The Drake Hotel’s new Modern Wing expansion is now open. The boutique hotel expanded its 19-room property into the adjacent building, adding a new lobby, 32 more guest rooms and a new lobby bar serving handcrafted cocktails. Also on-site: the Rooftop Terrace suite, which spans 1,000 square feet with two bedrooms, a living room and an expansive outdoor terrace.
VANCOUVER: A Christmas-themed haunted house opened on Dec. 3 and runs on select nights through Dec. 23. Located in Surrey, the “Xmas of Chaos” experience comes from the organizers of Cougar Creek’s House of Horrors. The macabre event is not recommended for guests younger than 14, though there will be toned-down versions for younger guests on select days. Tickets cost $35 and must be purchased in advance.
After hosting its first edition on Dec. 4, the Sooke Winter Market will return on Dec. 11. The outdoor event is meant to be a community gathering, with more than 25 vendors, live music, a raffle and free tours of the lighthouse and Moss Cottage.
