US: An Emmy Awards Formatting Change, W Hotels’ New Tablescape Rental Service, New Restaurants From José Andrés and More

NATIONAL: The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, which produces the Daytime Emmys, and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, which produces the Primetime Emmys, have announced a new shift to genre-based awards rather than time-based awards. For example, scripted dramas and comedies will enter the Television Academy-administered awards, regardless of air time, while multi-camera, weekday daily serials will join what was previously the daytime awards. The ceremonies will remain separate.

W Hotels has partnered with tabletop rental service Social Studies, providing clients and guests the opportunity to add custom, ready-made decor options to meetings and events. Social Studies is offering 12 tablescape looks, with options including an island-inspired look, a modern formal setting and a maximalist design in partnership with Italian designer La DoubleJ.

CHICAGO: Chef José Andrés and Gibsons Restaurant Group have opened two new culinary concepts in the Bank of America Tower. Bazaar Meat offers theatrical interpretations of meat and vegetables, and Bar Mar does the same for seafood and creative cocktails. Bazaar Meat has a main dining room, a 10-seat bar and an eight-seat meat bar, while Bar Mar has 200 seats and 40-foot floor-to-ceiling windows.

MONTCLAIR, NJ: Experiential B-to-B agency Strat House has appointed Lauren Elchoness as its new senior vice president overseeing client services and production for domestic and international live and virtual events. Elchoness most recently worked for Viacom, where she served as senior vice president of Nickelodeon Experiences.

SAN DIEGO: Show Imaging, an experience producer for national and international live events, has acquired Pro Systems AV, a San Diego-based company that specializes in concerts and festivals. Pro Systems will operate as a self-contained division that retains its existing name. Company president Brad Donaldson will now take on the additional role of vice president of concerts and touring for Show Imaging.
