US: Hotel Indigo's Three New Hotels, Waldorf Astoria Atlanta Buckhead's Massive Renovation, the Brooklyn Museum's Virgil Abloh Exhibit and More

NATIONAL: Hotel Indigo has announced the opening of three new hotels in New Orleans, Nebraska and Colorado. In New Orleans, the 143-room hotel is located in the city’s Central Business District. Hotel Indigo Omaha Downtown in Nebraska has a system of underground vaults and tunnels as well as textural design elements to nod to Omaha’s rich history. Hotel Indigo Silverthorne in Colorado is the brand’s first mountainside hotel in the U.S. and features 111 guest rooms and an indoor heated pool, plus an on-site ski shop and bike rentals.

In honor of Black History Month, grocery store Central Market is hosting a series of virtual cooking classes featuring stories and recipes from renowned black chefs. The series will kick off on Feb. 17 with chef Pierre Thiam, who will showcase his West African roots with a dinner menu consisting of salmon and cassava croquettes, grilled chicken yassa with line confit and chocolate fonio pudding. Class access and ingredient kit tickets are $85 per household.

ATLANTA: The Waldorf Astoria Atlanta Buckhead has announced a significant property-wide renovation headed by New York-based design firm BHDM, and it is slated to be completed in spring of 2022. Upon its reopening, the hotel will debut the Peacock Alley lounge, a highly curated cocktail program and guest rooms with refreshed designs and added luxury amenities.

MILWAUKEE: Full-service event and design company Two Birds Event Group has announced plans for The Starling, an event venue that will be debuting on Water Street in summer 2022. Two Birds has employed design-build firm Three Sixty to transform the space, which formerly housed SURG on the Water. The venue will feature floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the waterfront.

NEW YORK: On July 1, the Brooklyn Museum will debut an exhibit in honor of the late American fashion designer Virgil Abloh, who founded Off-White and was the artistic director of menswear at Louis Vuitton. Titled “Virgil Abloh: Figures of Speech,” the exhibit will run through January 29, 2023, and feature never-before-seen objects from the famed designer’s archive in the museum’s Great Hall.
