NATIONAL: Celebrity chef Todd English and global entrepreneur Keith Burkard have announced their newest joint venture: EHG, The English Hospitality Group. The new company features dozens of restaurants, hotels, nightlife venues and ghost kitchens, both domestically and internationally. Highlights include the first location of the English Hotel Chain, launching in Las Vegas in March, plus Todd English Food Hall, an upcoming 80,000-square-foot venue and art exhibition in Stamford, Conn.

CALGARY: The Calgary international Beerfest, Canada’s largest beer festival, is returning this year May 6-7 at the BMO Centre at Stampede Park. The festival will feature more than 700 beers from over 200 breweries, plus robust programming such as the Brew Masters Seminar, food and beer pairings and more. Tickets range from $19.99-$49.99.

CHARLOTTETOWN, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND: The Robertson Library at UPEI is hosting various Black History Month events, including an exhibition highlighting books by Black Canadian authors. The library will also host a free virtual event with Desmond Cole, the author of The Skin We’re In: A Year of Black Resistance and Power, on March 2, and is posting open discussion questions and resources on its Facebook page throughout the month.

MONTREAL: Montreal’s Festival BD is returning to the city May 27-29 on rue Saint-Denis. The festival caters to graphic novel and comic fans alike. In partnership with the Société de développement commercial Rue Saint-Denis, there will be bilingual, comics-themed events for fans to meet their favorite characters and immerse themselves in their favorite fictional plots. More than 200 artists are expected to attend this year’s edition of the event.

TORONTO: The Toronto Zoo is slated to undergo a major transformation over the next 15 years. Plans call for a new gorilla pavilion and a winterized Savannah pavilion, along with an art walk, eight yurts for overnight stays, glass viewing domes, a three-story brewery, a rooftop terrace and more.
