CANADA: Calgary Museum to Permanently Offer Free Admission, Fairmont Vancouver Airport’s Fit on the Fly Suite and More

CALGARY: After receiving a $35 million donation, Calgary’s Glenbow has become the first major Canadian museum to permanently offer free general admission. The generous payment came from the JR Shaw family to celebrate the legacy of JR Shaw himself as a legendary businessman and founder of Shaw Communications and Corus Entertainment. The Glenbow building is currently undergoing a top-to-bottom renovation that will transform its 312,000 square feet of space. Upon the building's reopening, it will be renamed the JR Shaw Centre for Arts & Culture.

EDMONTON: The historic Coliseum Inn, which was built in 1983, has closed its doors. The 98-room building will undergo renovations and reopen as permanent affordable housing units. The city and federal government have already announced similar plans for Edmonton’s Sands Hotel on Fort Road and the Days Inn on University Avenue. The project will cost a total of $18 million; $7 million will come from the city, and the rest will be paid by the federal government.

TORONTO: The Toronto Biennial of Art is kicking off its second 10-week-long edition on March 26 with free hybrid programming such as workshops, performances and learning programs led by international participants. Titled “What Water Knows, the Land Remembers,” the program is designed to bring intergenerational guests together to discuss the pressing issues of our time.

VANCOUVER: Luxury hotel Fairmont Vancouver Airport has launched the Fit on the Fly Suite, which includes a Nordic-inspired, in-room gym complete with a stationary Peloton bike, FITBENCH equipment and hydrotherapy shower and steamer. The 513-square-foot signature rooms start at $399 per night.

Hilton Vancouver Airport has completed a large-scale renovation that saw updates to all of its 237 rooms and 164 suites, which now feature seating areas with sofa beds that are perfect for large families. The hotel is located less than 6 kilometers from Vancouver International Airport and 12 kilometers from downtown Vancouver, and it offers amenities that include a complimentary airport shuttle, an on-site restaurant called CAVU Kitchen Bar and a heated outdoor pool and fitness center.
