CALGARY: Foodies in the Park, a series of pop-up al fresco dining experiences where patrons can eat inside of luxe garden domes built in the heart of Fish Creek Provincial Park, is taking place April 22 to May 22. This year, guests will enjoy a four-course gourmet dinner from chef Daryl as they immerse themselves in Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” or Picasso’s world of cubism. Domes are also available for private event bookings. Up to 14 climate-controlled domes with capacity of up to six adults each can be reserved for a total of 84 people per seating.
The fourth annual Lilac Festival is kicking off June 5 with more than 500 vendors including band performances, imported wares, community organizations and more. Designed for Calgarians to shake off the winter blues, the festival will be open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. between 13th Avenue and Elbow Drive SW and is appropriate for all ages. (There will even be bouncy houses for kids.)
TORONTO: "Frida: Immersive Dream" is set to open on March 31 at Lighthouse Artspace Toronto at 1 Yonge Street. The space has been transformed into 500,000 cubic feet of exhibit space where state-of-the-art technology, including 1.2 million frames of video and 90 million pixels, transports guests into Frida Kahlo’s world. Tickets are $45.
Liberty Entertainment Group has announced additional dates for Candlelight Symphony at the Castle, an intimate candlelit concert featuring the Casa Loma Symphony Orchestra. Performances will now run Thursday-Sunday evenings until April 17 at Casa Loma. Tickets can be purchased on the castle’s website and are $30 for adults, $20 for children and $25 for seniors.
VANCOUVER: The Vancouver International Burlesque Festival is taking place April 6-9 with more than 40 performers and two nights of stage shows at the Vancouver Playhouse. The onstage lineup has yet to be announced, but the off-stage itinerary will include TIT Talks—the festival’s spin on a TED Talk—as well as a members-only award gala.
