NATIONAL: Convene, a business hospitality company that provides premium physical, virtual and hybrid meeting and workplace solutions, is announcing a major internal promotion: Current head of technology Patrick Conroy has been named chief technology officer. Conroy has more than 20 years of experience building and managing high-growth start-ups. He will continue to lead all of Convene’s internal technology systems and processes, as well as oversee the company’s progress on its Studio product—a virtual and hybrid events platform that can accommodate meetings for up to 10,000 virtual attendees, including full production services.
TORONTO: Toronto’s longest-running, annual multi-arts fashion event Fashion Art Toronto will return with a three-day, in-person event at Design Exchange from May 6-8. The event will host runway shows from 40 Canadian designers, and feature fashion-inspired art installations. New this season, Fashion Art Toronto has partnered with Canadian shopping community INLAND, which will present its spring retail pop-up featuring local brands throughout the weekend.
The Interior Design Show (IDS), presented by Miele, returns in-person this year with its 2022 flagship trade show, IDS Toronto. The exposition will take place April 7-10 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, South Building. IDS Toronto's theme, "New Futures," reflects on Canadian design within a global context, catalyzing new ideas, solutions and expression. In addition to highlighting Canadian design, IDS Toronto will be showcasing exhibitors from all around the world, giving visitors a perspective on the future of design across the globe.
VANCOUVER: The Sakura Days Japan Fair is back April 9-10 at Vancouver’s VanDusen Botanical Garden after two years of cancellations. One of the biggest events in April, the fair celebrates the cherry blossoms and the arrival of spring in the city. Attendees can enjoy amazing spectacles, live performances and all-things Japanese culture. This year, most of the activities will take place outdoors, with a select few vendors setting up inside.
Author and artist Douglas Coupland, in partnership with the West Vancouver Art Museum, has created a series of photographic scenes titled Rabbit Lane, inspired by his book Girlfriend in a Coma. The photographs created in West and North Vancouver feature a variety of local homes and volunteer models, plus cars and clothes provided by the community. Rabbit Lane is part of the 2022 Capture Photography Festival Selected Exhibition Program, and the exhibition will show Tues.-Sat. through May 28.
