GLOBAL: Hubilo Technologies Inc.—a global leader in virtual, hybrid and live event management technology—announced Sophie Ahmed has been appointed as the senior vice president of market strategy. Ahmed brings more than 20 years of experience in the media and events industry to the role, having led global events for brands such as Informa, Reed Exhibitions, Cannes Lions and Money 20/20. Most recently, Ahmed was the CEO and co-founder of the Virtual Events Institute (VEI), a platform designed to bring virtual and hybrid communities together to share best practices and spark innovation.
GANANOQUE, ONT.: City Cruises Gananoque kicks off its 2022 season on May 7 with five vessels set to sail the archipelago where Lake Ontario empties into the St. Lawrence River. The tours—dubbed the Original Hart, Depths and Discovery, and Boldt Castle—will launch from the Gananoque port, while the Landmarks cruise will launch from the Ivy Lea port. Sunset cruises are slated to start on June 25, and each one-to-five-hour-long cruise is a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Previously known as Gananoque Boat Line, City Cruises is the oldest and largest cruise line in the 1000 Islands.
TORONTO: Global humanitarian organization War Child Canada will host a gala at the Royal Ontario Museum on Dec. 5. Titled The War That’s Possible, the event is designed to raise funds in support of children and their families impacted by the war and violence in Afghanistan, Yemen, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda and Iraq. Honorary gala chairs include War Child’s ambassadors and married stars Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski. Gourmet cuisine will be provided courtesy of chef Mark McEwan of The McEwan Group and chef Shen Ousmand of the Aga Khan Museum.
VANCOUVER: The Trump International Hotel & Tower Vancouver reopened last month as the Paradox Hotel Vancouver. The 147-room, luxury hotel first opened in the city’s second-tallest building in 2017 under the Trump Hotels brand, closed in Aug. 2020 due to the pandemic, and is now running under the ownership of Malaysia-based TA Global Berhad. The property boasts a gym, spa, outdoor jacuzzi and indoor lounge notable for its red-velvet banquette seating and full bar. Mott 32, the hotel’s on-site, fine-dining Chinese restaurant, is also open for business.
The Coastal Jazz & Blues Society announced American singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams, the Jazz at Pyatt Hall and the Performance Work Series are part of the 37th annual 2022 TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival, taking place June 24-July 3. Williams will perform at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on July 2 at 8 p.m., while the Jazz at Pyatt Hall will perform eight acts as part of a series of bebop, modern jazz and more. The Performance Work Series will also offer a series of performances across the 10-day festival, including Adria Kain and Janette King sharing stories of resilience, KEE AVIL’s guitar, voice and electronics as well as vibraphonists, country and rock ‘n’ roll performers and more. Tickets are available on the Coastal Jazz & Blues Society’s website.
