GLOBAL: FitXR, a virtual reality (VR) fitness app, has announced creative collective Thinkingbox as its agency of record. In the strategic and creative partnership, Thinkingbox will handle FitXR’s visual and conceptual rebranding, digital strategy, and website development, as well as design, content, and experiential marketing. Vancouver-based Thinkingbox will also work alongside sister company AntiSocial Solutions, a full-service social media agency.
MONTREAL: Thrills, a Montreal-based startup, is launching a mobile event platform at the end of May. The iOS- and Android-compatible app will allow users to discover events and activities to enjoy within a specified radius of their location. Features will allow people to filter what they see based off their interests, start and end times, date, and more. Events listed on Thrills will range from birthday parties to bar events, restaurant launches, and more. Users can make events private, for only people invited, or they can make events public so anyone can attend.
TORONTO: The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) will host the 51st annual JUNO Awards on May 15 at Budweiser Stage at 8 p.m. local time. The event will also be broadcast on CBC, hosted by actor Simu Liu, and feature performances from artists such as Arcade Fire, Avril Lavigne, and DJ Shub. People tuning into the broadcast will also see a special appearance by Canadian artist Shawn Mendes, who will be receiving the International Achievement Award. Tickets for the award show are on sale for $39.95 on Ticketmaster's website.
Reetu Gupta has been appointed the Chairwomen and Ambassadress of the Gupta Group, a Toronto-based development company. In the role, she will take over the family investment portfolio from her father and run it. She will also be responsible for leading strategic planning and philanthropic initiatives across all of the company’s divisions, as well as advancing the company’s diversification strategies. The Gupta family’s portfolio includes The Easton’s Group of Hotels, Gupta Group Mining, Gupta Group Developments, Rogue Insight Capital, and more.
VANCOUVER: As of this month, popular nightlife destination Ensō has become the first Canadian venue to accept cryptocurrency as a form of payment in efforts to be at the forefront of innovation. Ensō, which launched in Sept. 2021, recently underwent a major renovation, with two unique spaces: a main room complete with an arcade area and a second-floor whiskey lounge. The venue is also home to one of Vancouver's largest HD screens.
