BANFF: The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity debuted the new Jenny Belzberg Theatre with a grand opening celebration May 7-8 that included live performances from local artists. The theatre, which was originally built in 1967 and in need of a revamp, postponed its opening due to previous COVID restrictions, waiting until each seat could be filled and the venue could operate at full capacity. Renovations and upgrades totaled more than $7 million, funded largely by philanthropist Jenny Belzberg. Designed by KPMB Architects, 638 seats are now sloped with new, more comfortable upholstery, and the space boasts top-of-the-line acoustics and performance technology.
TORONTO: Canada’s best-selling kid’s music group, Mini Pop Kids, will be performing at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Toronto on June 12 as part of their North American tour, "Bright Lights RELIT." The family friendly concert will feature top hits from the past year, including songs by Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa, Harry Styles, and Olivia Rodrigo, plus throwbacks that everyone is sure to love. Tickets are on sale on Mini Pop Kids' website for shows at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Nextech AR Solutions, a metaverse company and augmented reality (AR) technologies expert, has announced a partnership with Restaurants Canada to launch the 365 Marketplace at the 2022 RC Show, the country's leading foodservice and hospitality event, which took place May 9-11. The platform created a hybrid space—a combination of a virtual event venue and an international marketplace—complete with up to 5,000 virtual vendor profiles serving more than 30,000 members. The 365 Marketplace aims to be a thriving center for e-commerce by using unique, 3D AR technology to showcase products in its truest form, ultimately allowing members to use technology to interact at a higher level.
VANCOUVER: The Japan Market Summer Festival 2022 is taking place at the Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza June 11-12, featuring six food trucks and 12 other vendors selling crafts, merchandise, wellness products, jewelry, art, and more. Companies attending include Early Bird Pudding, CHOYA, Tokyo Katsu Sand, Pokey Okey, Secret Ice Cream, Japadog, and more. Designed to celebrate Japanese culture, the market will run from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. both days, and tickets start at $4.
The 36th annual TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival has unveiled the "Innovation Series at The Ironworks" as part of this year's programming, which will take place at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre. The series aims to highlight an array of experimental jazz, with performances by Darius Jones and Gerald Cleaver, Jaimie Branch C'est Trois, Thumbscrew, and more. The festival will run June 24-July 3 and feature more than 700 different artists at 19 different venues. Tickets are on sale on Coastal Jazz's website.
