OTTAWA: The National Arts Centre (NAC) unveiled a mixed-media art installation on May 16. Titled Heartbeat of Mother Earth, it was created by Emily Brascoupe-Hoefler. Designed to celebrate Algonquin culture and tradition, the piece is the newest permanent fixture at the arts center. It features two colorful large eyes that look out to NAC's lobby.
TORONTO: Canada’s Liberty Entertainment Group collaborated with international culinary and wine media company Gambero Rosso to host a signature fundraising wine event, Tre Bicchieri 2022 Best of Italy. Here, guests will have the opportunity to taste over 100 different premium wines from more than 488 wineries—all of which been awarded the esteemed Tre Bichhieri award. The Best of Italy event will take place at the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex in Toronto on June 23. Early bird tickets are now available for $150.
The Ontario chapter of the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers (CAPS) announced the hospitality industry winners of its 2022 CAPS Cup tasting challenge, which was held on April 27 at SIPS in Toronto. The first-place winner was Marie-Claire Perotto, head sommelier of BlueBlood Steakhouse/Liberty Entertainment Group; followed by second place winner, Justin Madol, advanced sommelier, of Don Alfonso 1890/Liberty Entertainment Group. Sommelier and wine consultant Sandra Enns-Arnell rounded out the podium in third place. Participants also included students representing the wine education spectrum of Court of Master Sommeliers and CAPS- and WSET-certified professionals.
VANCOUVER ISLAND, B.C.: The newest location of the Canadian Brewhouse, a Canadian-themed sports bar, will open this summer at the Uptown Shopping Centre on Vancouver Island. There are more than 40 other locations across Canada, but this will be the first location on the island. Construction for the two-story restaurant is underway and, upon completion, the location will be able to accommodate 600 across dining and bar seating, bowling lanes, billiards, batting cages, and a rooftop patio.
WATERLOO, ON.: Explore Waterloo Region, a regional tourism corporation, is offering sustainable business event options. Offerings include menus with plant-based food options, limited single-use items, and water stations with glasses available for guests with or without reusable bottles. Waterloo's hospitality facilities and venues will also source local products whenever possible, refrain from serving foods that require a high-emissions process, and donate foods left over at the end of each conference.
