CANMORE, ALTA.: The Canmore Folk Festival, the longest-running folk music festival in Alberta, is returning for its 44th year July 30-Aug. 1, over the course of the Heritage Day long weekend. The festival will take place at Centennial Park among the Rocky Mountains and will feature 30-plus individual acts and performances, plus a free, family friendly concert every Friday evening. A kids’ area will be jam-packed with crafts, puppets, music, storytelling, and a climbing wall. Tickets can be purchased on Canmore Folk Festival’s website starting at $34.

EDMONTON: On Aug. 19 from 5-11 p.m. at the Edmonton Valley Zoo, the Ark Project is hosting the fifth annual Zoobrew. Guests over the age of 18 are welcome to enter the zoo after hours as the grounds transform into a peaceful summer escape complete with live music and, of course, craft beers, wines, and spirits from breweries across the province. Participating breweries, wineries, and distilleries include Dog Island Brewing, The Growlery Beer Co., Spirit Hills, Back 40 Distillery, T-Rex Distillery, and many more. Food vendors will also be on-site. Tickets are available on Eventbrite, starting at $27.67 for general admission.

TORONTO: The 55th annual Toronto Caribbean Festival is a four-day event kicking off on July 28. Themed #OnDeRoadAgain, programming will be centered around the Grande Parade to celebrate the freedom and emancipation of Caribbeans from slavery. The event schedule also includes a costume showcase, a selection of food and beverage vendors serving up island flavors, and much more. Tickets and programming are available on the Toronto Caribbean Festival’s website.

The Canadian International Air Show (CIAS) will return to Toronto’s waterfront over Labor Day weekend, Sept. 3-5. This year’s show will feature the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, who will soar through the sky while performing thrilling military aerobatics. Attendees can also expect to see vintage warbirds, including the U.S.A.F. F-35, performances by the CF-18 Demonstration team, aviation exhibits filled with artifacts and cutting-edge technology, and more. Tickets are available on CIAS’ website.

VANCOUVER: The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver has welcomed the “Treat-Cycle,” a new, brightly colored teal bicycle and ice cream cart. Every Friday from noon-4 p.m. through the month of July, the Treat-Cycle will pop up outside the hotel—at Burrard and Alberni—and serve house-made cups of ice cream courtesy of the Fairmont’s executive pastry chef, Eric Fernandez. Ice cream cups will be $7 and feature flavors such as lemon meringue pie, dulce de leche, peaches and cream, and more.
