NATIONAL: Air Canada has announced the expansion of its international network with the addition of Bangkok, Thailand, the carrier's first nonstop service to Southeast Asia. The airline will also be resuming flights to Mumbai, its second destination in the India market. Air Canada's seasonal service to Bangkok will operate from its trans-Pacific hub at Vancouver International Airport, while the carrier's Mumbai flights will operate from Toronto via London-Heathrow. Both routes are subject to receiving final government approvals.
MONTREAL: The MUTEK festival of electronic music and digital creativity is back for its 23rd edition in Montreal Aug. 23-28. For six days and six nights, festivalgoers will be able to enjoy more than 80 performances in the heart of the city. This year, the festival will take place in a variety of locations that are all walking distance from one another, including the Society for Arts and Technology, MTELUS, and Place des Arts’ Théâtre Maisonneuve.
TORONTO: Ace Hotel Toronto recently opened in the city's historic Garment District. The 123-room property was a ground-up project designed by Shim-Sutcliffe Architects. The hotel features a ground-floor restaurant, Adler, serving up seasonal wood-fired fare; while a rooftop lounge, Evangeline, will open later this year. Guests can also expect an in-room vinyl collection curated by storied independent Toronto record label Arts & Crafts and three multifunctional event spaces.
A street-wide celebration called The Bentway Block Party has been set for Aug. 14 and will take place under the Gardiner Expressway. This year’s block party will include performers The Illustrious Blacks and Drag Race Canada winner Priyanka. Attendees can also expect street food and drink, family-friendly workshops, fashion shows, and more.
VANCOUVER: This month, the Underground Donut Tour launched its first tour in Canada in Vancouver. The experience hosts thousands of guests from around the world and showcases the best donuts each city has to offer. Guests can expect to walk between four of the best donut shops in Vancouver's downtown and Gastown neighborhoods. Tour guides share the history of each location, along with many local sights, sounds, and tastes of the area. Tours will start on Friday, Aug. 12, and run year-round. Tours run every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 9 a.m. and noon with more days and times coming soon.
