The Pallas Athena WFC II will feature 20 Canadian and international athletes and include a pre-show event. TORONTO: King West eatery Lapinou has welcomed Ben Heaton as its new executive chef and partner. With Heaton’s help, the French neo-bistro will now feature a four-course chef’s tasting menu in the fall, along with an evolving list of a la carte fare. The new menu will center around small plates and signature main courses, all designed to pair with Lapinou’s extensive wine list. Previously, Heaton trained in the U.K. with Michelin-starred chefs Gary Rhodes and Jason Atherton before returning to Toronto to open the critically acclaimed Globe Bistro and work alongside chef Claudio Aprile at Colborne Lane and as chef de cuisine at chef Mark McEwen’s ONE in Yorkville.
VANCOUVER: After a two-year hiatus, Vancouver’s Italian Days—a cultural festival that celebrates the local Italian community—will return to Grandview Park on Aug. 28. The festival will feature food stands and trucks, merchants, live music, fashion displays, contests, a children’s area with crafts, and more. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the festival will be smaller than in previous years; organizers will not shut down the typical 14 blocks along Commercial Drive, but the side streets at Grandview Park will still be set up to evoke Little Italy. The free festival takes place from noon-9 p.m.
Organizers of the Belgian Waffle Ride will host the first Canadian edition of the race on Vancouver Island from May 26-28, 2023. The race typically draws a mix of pros and amateurs, who race over dirt, gravel, and other off-road terrain.
