GLOBAL: The AC Hotel by Marriott Monterrey Valle has opened, marking Marriott International’s first property in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The hotel boasts 186 guest rooms, more than 1,000 square feet of event space, and four meeting rooms equipped with the latest technology. Additionally, the AC Terrace offers sweeping views of the city for business and social events alike; the on-site AC Restaurant serves up Spanish cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; and the AC Lounge is the perfect place for a cocktail.
NATIONAL: Nick Di Donato, the CEO of Liberty Entertainment Group, has announced the launch of the first-ever Canadian national Young Chef Young Waiter (YCYW) contest. Open to industry professionals based in Canada under 26 years of age, the competition focuses on sustainability in hospitality, plus supports the education and development of talent. The YCYW contest is organized by Nth Degree Global in partnership with UKHospitality and the Restaurant Association. Submissions are now open and will close on Sept. 16. Winners will move on to the World Finals, slated for Nov. 15-17 in Monaco.
TORONTO: Pedestrian Sundays in Kensington Market are taking place weekly now through Oct. 30. The family-friendly event features food, live entertainment—including poetry readings and dance performances—plus the Kensington Market Art Fair, a curated open-air art fest focusing on two- and three-dimensional works. There will also be a community yard sale with road closures on Augusta Avenue, Nassau Street, Baldwin Street, Kensington Avenue, and Saint Andrew Street.
The Toronto Tango 8 Festival Marathon is five days of dance parties, lessons, and master workshops taking place Sept. 1-4. The event is designed to celebrate Argentine tango dancing. Tickets are available online—ranging from free beginner classes for first-time Argentine tango dancers to $26 for workshop classes to $382 for weekend passes, which includes nine workshop classes and all evening shows and events. Discounts are available for two people registering as a couple.
VANCOUVER: SHUX 2022 returns to the Vancouver Convention Centre Sept. 30-Oct. 2 with a lineup of stage shows, massive social games, and special events.
