NATIONAL: ET Canada has announced that Sangita Patel has been promoted to host following 10 seasons as a reporter on the entertainment news program. Patel will now help in leading the nightly news broadcast alongside longtime host Cheryl Hickey. ET Canada’s 18th season will premiere on Sept. 12, airing weeknights at 7:30 p.m.
CALGARY: It has been announced that the city of Calgary will host the Masters equestrian show jumping event, slated to take place Sept. 7-11 at Spruce Meadows. The five-day event will feature more than 70 vendors, plus live performances, a display of classic cars and carriages, face painting, and pony rides. There will also be special appearances from the British Military, including the Household Cavalry Band, flower displays from Holland, a drone show, and more. Tickets are available via Showpass.
TORONTO: Toronto’s first-ever Indigenous Food Market is taking place every Wednesday now through Oct. 8 at Fork York National Historic Site on Garrison Road. The event is free to attend and, along with indigenous foods, will feature indigenous vendors, artisans, special performances, and more. The event is hosted by Dashmaawaan Bemaadzinjin, an Indigenous Food Sovereignty collective and social enterprise focused on building community through nutritious foods.
VANCOUVER: The Chilliwack Sunflower Festival is open now through Sept. 5, marking the fifth year of the annual summer event. Attendees can discover 50 varieties of sunflowers—plus more than 50 kinds of gladiolas, zinnias, and cosmos—planted across three display gardens. And on Aug. 25, the flower-clad fest is hosting a fundraiser in support of Ukraine where, for one day, all ticket sales will be donated to the H.E.R.O (Humanitarian Emergency Response Operations) Society, a nonprofit, Canada-based organization that’s a registered charity in Ukraine.
Italian Day at Grandview Park takes place Aug. 28 from noon-9 p.m. The cultural street festival will feature live performances, family-friendly activities, vendors, and, of course, pizza, pasta, and other delicious Italian foods. Admission is free, and volunteer opportunities are available via Italian Day’s website.
