NATIONAL: According to STR—a company that provides market data on the hotel industry worldwide—Canada’s hotel performance was the highest of the pandemic era in June 2022. Monthly hotel room rates were at an all-time high, and occupancy was its highest since September 2019. Among the provinces and territories, Nova Scotia recorded the highest June occupancy level of 79.7%, which was 5.5% above the pre-pandemic comparable. Toronto saw the highest occupancy at 84.4% among the major markets, which was a 0.9% increase from 2019.
DIEPPE, N.B.: This Friday, country music fans in New Brunswick can experience some of the biggest names in the industry. The inaugural YQM Country Fest will offer a first-class musical experience Aug. 26-27 in the heart of the city at outdoor venue MusiquART Site. Headliners include Blake Shelton and Florida Georgia Line. Doors open at 1 p.m., and music begins at 3 p.m.
TORONTO: At the end of July, Destination Toronto named Paula Port as new vice president of global marketing. Port has more than 20 years of experience at Destination Toronto and, going forward, will lead the strategic development and implementation of marketing and communications for the destination. Most recently, Port was the director of brand and content, where she established content marketing as a core function of the organization.
The St. Regis Toronto has partnered with Michter's Whiskey Distillery for a new edition to its flight-tasting series at the hotel's 31st-floor restaurant, LOUIX LOUIS. Guests at the award-winning, two-story bar and restaurant will be able to taste a selection of Michter’s US1 limited production, single barrel, and small-batch ultra-premium whiskeys from Sept. 1-Dec. 31. The Michter’s tasting experience—available on the LOUIX LOUIS beverage menu for $60 per person—will include a flight board of four 0.75 ounce glasses of four expressions.
VANCOUVER: Pet-a-Palooza, the West Coast's largest outdoor pet festival, returns this year on Aug. 28 in the Yaletown neighborhood. This year's attractions include a 120-foot pool party, a puppy pancake breakfast, a drive-through window of delicious dog-friendly treats, a canine-centered art installation, and pup-friendly yoga. The highlight, as always, will be the dog races, with categories that include English bulldogs, French bulldogs, and corgis. The event is free to attend and runs from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
