CANADA: The Purple City Music Festival, Ottawa Lands ACWW’s 31st Triennial Conference, Destination Vancouver Named Marketer of the Year, and More

EDMONTON: The Purple City Music Festival has returned to Edmonton and is running Aug. 26-28 at Hawrelak Park. The festival is a youth-inspired arts event focused on the newest sounds from the global underground. The musical lineup includes bands like The Shivas, Death Valley Girls, Dilly Dally, and The Velveteins. Tickets for a single-day pass start at $100, and multi-day passes will run guests $240.

OTTAWA, ONT.: Skate Canada has announced that the Skate Canada Challenge will be hosted as two separate events for the first time ever, with the 2022-2023 Skate Canada Challenge – Junior/Senior set to be held at Seven Oaks Arena at Garden City Community Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, from Nov. 30-Dec. 3. Meanwhile, the Pre-Novice/Novice event will be held in 2023. The 2022-2023 Skate Canada Challenge – Junior/Senior will welcome more than 200 junior and senior skaters from across the country who will be vying for a shot to compete at the 2023 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships in early January. 

Ottawa Tourism recently announced that it is set to host around 700 women from rural and indigenous communities at the Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) 2026 Conference from April 24-May 5, 2026. The ACWW’s 31st Triennial Conference will be held at Ottawa’s Westin Hotel in 2026. The daytime will feature conference content, while the evenings will include a range of cultural and community-focused events.

TORONTO: The Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) has announced that for the first time, 100% of the wine and craft beer it serves will be locally sourced. This initiative reflects the centre's ongoing commitment to support local businesses and showcase the best Ontario has to offer. In a typical year, the MTCC serves approximately 38,000 bottles of wine and 94,000 beers. By buying local in large volume, the centre hopes to help bolster local businesses as much as possible, especially as the region recovers from the effects of the pandemic.

VANCOUVER: The BC Chapter of the American Marketing Association (BCAMA) has named Destination Vancouver the winner of the coveted Marketer of the Year award for 2022. Now in its 50th year, the Marketer of the Year is presented annually for the most outstanding integrated marketing strategy in the province. The BCAMA will host and present the award to Destination Vancouver at the 50th annual Marketer of the Year Gala at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver on Nov. 24.
