EDMONTON: DMG Events has announced that a major convention showcasing carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) as a key pillar of Canada’s net-zero emissions strategy by 2050 will take place Sept. 20-22. Dubbed Carbon Capture Canada, the conference will take place at Edmonton Convention Centre in Alberta and will host conversations on carbon capture projects, along with important discussion around sustainable jobs and economic development, new technologies, and the economics of CCUS. Guests can also expect an exhibition with more than 100 exhibitors, 3,000 domestic and international attendees, and a conference with 100-plus speakers and 500 delegates.
HALIFAX: The Prismatic Arts Festival—an annual, multidisciplinary arts festival that brings leading Indigenous artists and artists of color from across Canada to the East Coast—is returning Sept. 26-Oct. 9. The festival will take place at Neptune Theatre, The Carleton, and more venues around Kjipuktuk/downtown Halifax. The festival aims to create a dialogue between artists and audiences while giving people of all ages and backgrounds the chance to experience boundary-pushing theatre, dance, music, film, visual art, media art, and more, as well as opportunities to connect with artists through its industry events series.
MONTREAL: The Montreal International Black Film Festival (MIBFF), North America’s only bilingual (French/English) Black cinema festival, is returning for its 18th edition Sept. 20-25. The fest is entirely dedicated to Black cinema with a fresh look at it from different parts of the globe. MIBFF 2022 will present 95 films from 25 countries, including 12 world premieres, 10 international premieres, 25 Canadian premieres, and nine Quebec premieres. Opening night will take place Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Imperial Theatre with the international premiere of Matt Waldeck’s Lovely Jackson (USA), followed by a Q&A session with the director and Rickey Jackson.
TORONTO: Liberty Entertainment Group restaurant Don Alfonso 1890 Toronto—located on the 38th floor of Toronto’s Westin Harbour Castle Hotel at 1 Harbour Square—and its executive chef Daniele Corona, have been awarded a Michelin star in the inaugural edition of the Michelin Guide Toronto, the first Canadian destination for the global restaurant review, in a ceremony held last week in Toronto. Don Alfonso 1890 showcases the Michelin-starred legacy of chefs Alfonso and Ernesto Iaccarino in Sorrento, Italy. Trained for years under both, Corona moved from the Amalfi Coast to execute the award-winning details of the original restaurant’s cuisine.
StartWell studio is launching Love Bomb, a new fine art, streetwear, and upcycled fashion collection with a live immersive experience, created by Asian-Canadian artist and designer catchoo. Running Sept. 23-25 in collaboration with singer and producer Tyra Jutai and upcycle artist Vanessa Stubbs of Subversive Sisters, the interactive exhibition features massive art projections, AI-inspired animations, musical performances and VJs, live custom silk screening, and access to Love Bomb by catchoo, including original fine art pieces, streetwear, one-of-a-kind upcycled fashion, accessories, stickers, and more.
