CANADA: MMBC Calls for Board Seat Applicants, the POP Montréal International Music Festival Returns, a New Bar and Venue Opens in Toronto, and More

NATIONAL: Meetings Mean Business Canada (MMBC) is looking for five qualified individuals for election to the Board of Directors for a two-year term beginning immediately, following the 2022 Annual General Meeting on Nov. 21 and ending immediately after the 2024 Annual General Meeting. The board seats are volunteer positions without remuneration. Ideal candidates are senior leaders in the business events industry, have advocacy or government relations experience, and have previous board experience. Applications are due Oct. 7. MONTREAL: The POP MontrĂ©al International Music Festival is back this week, running Sept. 28-Oct. 2. The annual not-for-profit event champions independence in the arts by showcasing emerging and celebrated talents from around the world. Each year, the ïŹve-day festival presents more than 400 artists to over 60,000 attendees. This year, expect performances from Allison Russell, Sister Nancy, Tortoise, and more. TORONTO: Scale Hospitality, led by hospitality pros Hanif Harji and Terry Tsianos, has brought a new bar experience to the heart of Toronto’s Entertainment District. Black Pearl debuted Sept. 22 as an after-work hangout, a late-night cocktail emporium, a live band and DJ show destination, plus a street art gallery, a pool hall, and more. Located at 184 Pearl St., Black Pearl can accommodate up to 600 guests and has been designed to seat 160 guests for a "big show/small venue" performance space. The space is also available for full buyouts.

After a two-year hiatus, Toronto Oktoberfest is returning Sept. 30-Oct. 1, and this year is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The two-day festival will take place in a massive Festhalle tent and outdoor Bavarian Village, and the first 500 attendees per session will receive a free German glass beer stein. Expect, of course, German bites and sips, as well as live entertainment that will include competitions, traditional Bavarian dancing, and the popular FrÀulein E cabaret show. VANCOUVER: Popular festival Eastside Culture Crawl is returning to Vancouver Nov. 17-20. The event—where artists on Vancouver’s Eastside open their studios to the public—is a four-day visual arts, design, and crafts festival with nearly 500 artists across dozens of buildings in East Vancouver. Attendees can also expect workshops, demonstrations exhibits, and artist talks. The event is produced every year by the Eastside Arts Society.
