CALGARY: Calgary TELUS Convention Centre (CTCC) is now accredited as a Rainbow Registered Business. Rainbow Registered is a national accreditation for LGBT+ friendly businesses and organizations. Organizations with the accreditation meet a stringent set of standards to ensure LGBT+ customers feel safe, welcomed, and accepted. The assessment looked at workplace policies the CTCC has in place that address diversity and inclusion, how the convention center supports the LGBT+ community, and the standards in place to ensure employees continue to be trained and educated.

EDMONTON: The Edmonton Convention Centre is currently installing what will be the country's largest urban rooftop solar array on the Edmonton EXPO Centre, which will create enough energy to power 375 homes annually. The $5 million solar project will comprise 5,754 solar panels installed across 193,735 square feet above Halls D through H of the Expo Centre. The project is expected to be complete in November.

HALIFAX: Popular gaming and fantasy convention Hal-Con returns Oct. 28-30 at the Halifax Convention Centre. Its 100% volunteer-powered crew is ready to give fans a weekend packed with friends, fandom, and fun. Attendees can expect a costume contest, Saturday evening event Discovery Gala, autograph and photograph areas, panels, and more. Tickets run $40-$250.

TORONTO: The Small Business Summit of 2022, taking place Oct. 26 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, will explore how Canadian small businesses effectively embrace digital disruption. The event is an effort to listen to the complaints and challenges of small businesses in Canada and assist them in finding data-driven, effective solutions. Topics of discussion will include entrepreneurial resilience in challenging times, small business leadership, cloud and technology that can transform your small business, cash flow tips from top financial experts, and mental health—plus live Q&As.

VANCOUVER: The Vancouver Convention Centre has announced the recertification of its West Building as LEED Platinum for Building Operations and Maintenance—maintaining its double LEED Platinum status. The Vancouver Convention Centre’s West Building was the first convention center in the world to achieve double LEED Platinum, the first in 2009 for Building Design and Construction, and the second in 2017 for Building Operations and Maintenance. The facility features robust water conservation, energy efficiency, and a waste management system.
