Peter Jeavons has joined the company as CEO and has been tasked with using his 30-plus years of experience in technology to lead gthr’s business globally. Meanwhile, Nick Rosier has been announced as gther’s new chief product and customer officer after serving in tech-forward roles in Japan, Australia, Europe, and the UK. Together, Jeavone and Rosier will launch several innovative products and technologies for event planners around the world.
ALBERTA: Now through Nov. 4, Haunted Calgary is taking place in the underground parkade of New Horizon Mall in Balzac. During the haunted, walk-through attraction, guests can expect jump scares, foggy paths, and spooky characters. TORONTO: The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is hosting “ROM After Dark: Fantastic World” on Oct. 28. Designed to celebrate Earth’s beauty and diversity, guests will have access to various exhibits—including Fantastic Beasts: The Wonder of Nature and Kent Monkman: Being Legendary—and can also expect live bands, a DJ, video installations, and pop-up food stands. ROM curators will also be on-site sharing specimens from the museum’s collection and speaking on their research on climate change. Tickets are available online starting at $30 for adults and $27 for ROM members.
Liberty Entertainment Group has announced the winner of the first-ever Canadian national Young Chef Young Waiter (YCYW) content after it accepted entries from August-September. A judging panel of renowned hospitality professionals shortlisted six finalists: three servers and three chefs. These young chefs and waiters will now move to the international stage to compete in the World YCYW Finals Nov. 15-17 in Monaco. Winners in the “Servers” category include Paul Mckeand and Dunja Zdralic of Langdon Hall Country House and Spa, Cambridge, while winners in the “Chefs” category include Haofeng (Tyler) Lin of Hilton Toronto; Karly Ready of Langdon Hall Country House Hotel & Spa, Cambridge; and Brendan Tran of Richmond Station in Toronto.
VANCOUVER: Fresh Air Cinema is hosting a Halloween drive-in at Semiahmoo Park on Oct. 29. Movie buffs can either arrive early for a 6:30 p.m., family-friendly viewing of The Nightmare Before Christmas, or attend the night’s second spooky film at 9 p.m., Beetlejuice. Gates open a half hour before showtimes, and tickets are by donation, although $20 is suggested. Part of the proceeds will support the Semiahmoo First Nations.
