NATIONAL: Trans Canada Trail (the steward of the world’s longest recreational trail network) and Destination Canada have formed a new partnership. The two organizations have announced that they've signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), marking their commitment to working together and sharing expertise that supports the development of trail destinations across the country. The initiative is focused on sharing resources, knowledge, and expertise, including identifying opportunities and maximizing connections with destinations and communities
OTTAWA: The Tim Hortons Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival—a premier dragon boat festival on the North American dragon boat calendar—has announced that the 2023 edition will take place June 22-25 on the Rideau River at Mooney's Bay Park. The event will feature two days of racing and four days of artistic programming, including presentations from heritage performers, dancers, musicians, artisans, and family entertainers; marquee concerts; amusement attractions; sports demonstrations; a variety of artisans, exhibitors, and culinary treats; beach-side bar; and children's area.
TORONTO: Created by the Montreal Science Centre and designed in collaboration with knowledge bearers from First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities, Indigenous Ingenuity: An Interactive Adventure is running now through April 16, 2023. The exhibit celebrates the knowledge, culture, and history of Indigenous peoples, showcasing how Indigenous science is timeless and continues to influence our society today. Visitors can take part in a virtual canoe race, build an igloo, test a kayak's center of gravity, and more.
VANCOUVER: Canyon Lights is returning to Capilano Suspension Bridge Park on Nov. 19, and is running until Jan. 22, 2023 (it's closed on Dec. 25). This winter wonderland will transform Capilano Suspension Bridge Park into an unforgettable holiday light experience. Visitors can cross the world-famous bridge, which will be lit end-to-end with multicolor-changing displays above an illuminated Capilano River. Tickets are on sale now and must be purchased in advance online.
VICTORIA, B.C.: Destination Greater Victoria has achieved a Climate Positive designation from leading North American carbon management solutions provider Ostrom Climate. It's the first major destination marketing and management organization or convention and visitors bureau in North America to reach this milestone. This official designation follows previous work by Destination Greater Victoria to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Destination Greater Victoria was granted its 2022 Climate Positive company designation once it met a number of criteria and offset 110% of 2021 emissions.
