CANADA: Calgary’s Home Alone-Inspired Pop-Up Bar, an Immersive Light Show in Toronto, Polar Bear Plunges, and More

GLOBAL: American Express Meetings & Events has launched the latest evolution of its business intelligence platform Meetings Insights. Designed to help clients make faster and more informed decisions, Meetings Insights boasts a user-friendly dashboard and customizable insights to drive profitability and generate efficiencies. The platform also uses AmEx Meetings & Events’ aggregated client data and industry sources to identify valuable trends and benchmark performance against companies with similar profiles. The latest iteration of Meetings Insights is currently being rolled out to existing and new clients.

CALGARY: Eighty-Eight Brewing Co. is hosting a Home Alone-inspired pop-up bar now through Dec. 30. There are more than 20 brews to choose from—including a coffee IPA named Won’t You By My Neighbour and a triple IPA called Wet Bandits—as well as flights, wine by the glass and bottle, and non-alcoholic offerings. Guests can also expect themed food pairings to complement their beverage of choice.

Now through Jan. 15, the Legacy Community Light Walk is showcasing a twinkling scene featuring more than a million tiny bulbs. The largest, free event of its kind in Calgary, the walkthrough has decked out houses, parks, trees, and Legacy’s iconic clock tower strung in lights. There will also be an oversized Christmas tree and LED presents for a themed photo op as well as an ice skating rink.

TORONTO: A Nordic Lights exhibit is running at the Harbourfront Centre Jan. 27-Feb. 21. From 5-10 p.m. each night, 53,000 square feet of Toronto’s sky will be lit with six interactive light displays courtesy of artists from Canada, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark. The exhibit is a result of the venue’s initiative to foster cultural exchange between the Nordic Region and Canada. The event is free.

VANCOUVER: The White Rock Polar Bear Plunge is taking place on White Rock pier on Jan. 1. Similar icy ocean dips are also happening in Metro Vancouver: the Polar Bear Swim at English Bay, the Penguin Plunge in Port Moody, and the Polar Bear Swim in Delta. There’s also the Penguin Plunge at Panorama Park in North Vancouver’s Deep Cover, which is a smaller annual event that usually includes live entertainment. Visit the respective plunge’s website for more information.
