CANADA: La Poutine Week, a Seasonal Ice Bar in Montreal, the Toronto Reptile Expo, and More

GLOBAL: The Waldorf Astoria Cancun has announced three appointments to its executive leadership team: Andre Aparicio as hotel manager, Alejandra Vela as guest experience manager, and Omar Sanchez as cluster spa director. Aparicio brings 16 years of hospitality experience to the role, having most recently served as the director of operations for JW Marriott Hotel Rio de Janeiro. Vela and Sanchez were part of the opening team of Hilton Cancun, an All-Inclusive Resort before joining Waldorf Astoria Cancun. Together, the hotel profs will aim to elevate the guest experience and create an unforgettable stay. 

EDMONTON: La Poutine Week—Canada’s largest poutine festival—returns to Edmonton Feb. 1-14. Participating restaurants include Wayback Burgers, Central Social Hall, Lion’s Head Pub, and more. A list of participating restaurants is available on La Poutine Week’s website. After dining on smoked brisket, crunchy chicken, or “Big Dill” poutine (just to name a few), diners are encouraged to visit the fest’s website to vote on their favorite.

MONTRÉAL: Riverside Bar is hosting a winter pop-up playfully named “Hiverside,” where guests will step into an icy oasis built and designed by Julien Doré, the ice sculptor of Quebec City's Hôtel de Glace. Curated hot cocktails, cold mixed drinks, and mocktails are on order, including the Cotton Candy Claus-mopolitan courtesy of Hiverside’s partnership with Grey Goose and Cointreau. Hiverside’s entrance fee is $20 and includes a welcome cocktail and hand warmers.

TORONTO: Healthcare professionals looking to improve their craft are invited to an event dubbed Wealth & Prosperity in Chinese Medicine with Richard Kwan. The education-forward event will take place at the AIM Academy on Feb. 26 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tickets are available on the venue’s website for $250, and guests can expect to explore the five elements of Chinese medicine while understanding how low confidence and self esteem can negatively impact health, career, and relationships.

The International Centre will host the Toronto Reptile Expo on Feb. 26 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Guests are invited to view and learn about reptilian specialty pets from across Canada, plus join advocacy groups and network with fellow animal lovers. Tickets are available at the door and start at $12 for children and seniors, and $18 for adults.
