CANADA: Exhibition Place Signs Sustainability Pledge, Toronto Pearson to Incorporate More AI, Vancouver International Wine Festival, and More

GLOBAL: The Jamaica Tourist Board has announced that it will be bidding farewell to its deputy director of tourism, Americas, Donnie Dawson, who will be retiring as of March 31. Dawson joined the Jamaica Tourist Board at its Kingston headquarters as a sales representative in 1975. After brief employment with Jamaica resort hotels, he rejoined the tourist board in California in 1982 and was tasked with expanding what was then a satellite office into a full-service regional operation covering 13 states.

MONTREAL: Air Canada has announced the addition of new, nonstop seasonal flights between Montreal and Amsterdam for this summer. Flights will operate five times weekly with the airline's Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Seats are available for sale now via Air Canada's website.

TORONTO: Exhibition Place has signed the Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge, joining a global movement of businesses committed to creating a sustainable future for the tourism industry. This pledge demonstrates Exhibition Place's commitment to improving the sustainability performance of its business between now and 2030 in support of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) has announced that it is partnering with Assaia to help enable smoother, faster, and more predictable operations through the deployment of Assaia ApronAI at all of Toronto Pearson International Airport's 106 gates. Assaia provides an artificial intelligence solution to track every aspect of aircraft turnaround performance—physically preparing an aircraft when it lands until it takes off again for a new flight. By monitoring what is happening around the aircraft in real time, the data will be used to highlight and address inefficiencies, and to provide accurate estimates of timeliness to increase gate availability, improve on-time performance, and be more transparent with passengers.

VANCOUVER: The Vancouver International Wine Festival will take place this year April 22-30 (for its 44th year) at the Vancouver Convention Centre. It welcomes some of the world's greatest wine producers and wine drinkers to its annual celebration of wine and food. In addition to wine tastings of course, attendees can expect numerous other restaurants and venues around the city to host winery dinners, lunches, and seminars. For 2023, the theme region is South America, and the global spotlight is on sparkling wine.
