GLOBAL: Privately-owned hospitality group Kanava Hotels & Resorts has announced its new brand name: Empiria Group. The change celebrates the company’s 30 years in business and its plans for further development. Empiria Group currently holds seven luxury properties in Greece, including Vedema, a Luxury Collection Resort in Santorini, and Korona Boutique Hotel on the Mani Peninsula.

NEW HAVEN, CONN.: Hotel Marcel New Haven, Tapestry Collection by Hilton has earned its LEED Platinum certification. The property is a zero-emissions hotel powered by more than 1,000 solar panels, and operates without using fossil fuels. An iconic landmark (as the former headquarters of the Pirelli Armstrong Rubber Company, designed by Marcel Breuer), the hotel has gained recognition for combining historic preservation with sustainable hospitality. It joins fewer than one dozen hotels in the U.S.—and the first since 2015—that have earned the LEED Platinum certification.

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS: U.S. Travel has announced that the number of international buyers and media attending U.S. Travel's IPW in San Antonio (May 20-24) has returned to pre-pandemic levels, with several notable markets surpassing 2019 counts. Canada and Mexico buyer registrations are currently 34% above 2019 levels, while Brazil and South America overall are 33% and 19% above 2019 levels, respectively. Australia is trending 17% above 2019 levels. Registration for the conference is still open on IPW's website.

SAN FRANCISCO: To celebrate the arrival of spring, Beacon Grand, A Union Square Hotel is hosting a pop-up dubbed "Union Square in Bloom" now through the month of June. Visitors can enjoy over-the-top floral displays and interactive programming throughout Union Square—from floral workshops and concerts to garden-to-glass cocktails and petal-shaped ice cream.

SAN DIEGO: The San Diego Tourism Authority (SDTA) has partnered with Tripadvisor to attract visitors to San Diego through an innovative art installation and augmented reality filter that captures the destination's sunny optimism and positivity.
