GLOBAL: Atlantis Paradise Island will be home to the Bahamas’ first coral gene bank, making strides in the global fight against stony coral tissue loss disease (SCTLD), an affliction decimating coral populations in the Bahamas and beyond. Signed into effect on May 18, The Bahamas Coral Gene Bank at Atlantis Paradise Island is a collaboration between Atlantis and its nonprofit organization, Atlantis Blue Project Foundation, the Bahamas Ministry of Agriculture, Marine Resources and Family Island Affairs, Perry Institute for Marine Science, and University of The Bahamas. Under this agreement, Atlantis and the foundation will support the effort to build and equip a biosecure facility to save the most vulnerable coral species from SCTLD until they can be safely returned to the reefs.
NATIONAL: Destination Canada has launched a new pilot project called the Tourism Corridor Strategy Program, which aims to accelerate the intentional development of tourism corridors or clusters of tourism assets across Canada. The DMO has selected three high-potential tourism corridors to support in 2023: Atlantic Canada UNESCO Tourism Corridor, Sustainable Journey from Prairies to Pacific, and Northern Indigenous Tourism Lodge Network. Destination Canada, along with a consultant and selected corridor partners, will co-create and deliver a strategy, implementation plan, and financial plan to support a regenerative approach to the development of these tourism corridors in the future.
TORONTO: Liberty Entertainment Group has announced that it has been awarded the coveted Tre Forchette (“Three Forks”) designation in the 2023 Top Italian Restaurants Awards for its Michelin-starred restaurant, Don Alfonso 1890 Toronto, by Gambero Rosso.
