BANFF: The Banff International String Quartet Festival will take place Sept. 1 this year. The event is a three-day festival held at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, and it showcases the finest in international classical music to audiences through an immersive experience. The opening concert will feature Leonkoro Quartet and Dior Quartet.
EDMONTON: Edmonton International Airport (YEG) is the first Canadian airport to sign on to a new initiative led by Action Coalition on Human Trafficking Alberta that provides translated materials to Canadian newcomers about their rights in Alberta. This summer, QR code stickers with access to materials in English, French, Spanish, Punjabi, Chinese, and Tagalog will be installed in washrooms at YEG. Materials will also be provided to all YEG transportation partners.
MONTREAL: The Montreal International Auto Show (MIAS) is undertaking a strategic reflection. The show—which has a long history of delighting car enthusiasts in Quebec—is collaborating with the firm Mallette and the advertising agency Récréation "to adapt to the realities of the automotive industry, the changing needs of enthusiasts, and the constant evolution of events," according to a press release. The process will involve a public survey and individual interviews with manufacturers and dealerships. The next MIAS will take place Jan. 19-28, 2024, at the Palais des congrès de Montréal.
TORONTO: Destination Toronto announced Rekha Khote, the CEO of MK2 Hospitality, as chair of its board of directors. Khote was elected by the board of directors, the slate of which was approved June 8 at the 98th annual General Meeting at The Royal Conservatory of Music's Koerner Hall. Khote's tourism career includes executive leadership at Starwood Hotels and Delta Hotels & Resorts. She has board and committee experience at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Greater Toronto Hotel Association, George Brown College, and Destination Toronto, serving as chair of its marketing committee.
VANCOUVER: The Government of Canada is making investments in British Columbia to refresh public spaces, attract new visitors, and stimulate local economies. It was announced that over $2.4 million in PacifiCan funding will be used for nine projects in Vancouver. This includes over $1.7 million for five projects through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund and more than $700,000 for four projects through the Tourism Relief Fund.
