CANADA: Destination Canada's Sustainability Announcement, MacFarlands Events' New Facility, Chelsea Hotel's Renovations, and More

NATIONAL: With the release of the 2023 Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDS-Index), Destination Canada announced that Canada is now the country with the highest number of participating destinations in the GDS-Index, with 20 in total. This is incredible growth for Canada, as last year’s Index only listed three Canadian cities: Edmonton, Montreal, and Quebec City. The GDS-Index is a leading sustainability performance program for urban tourism and events destinations around the world. Used by over 100 cities globally, the GDS-Index benchmarks and improves the sustainability performance and strategies of the municipality, its tourism supply chain, and the destination management organization.

HALIFAX: MacFarlands Events, renowned for pioneering event solutions in Atlantic Canada for over six decades, has revealed its brand-new, state-of-the-art facility in Dartmouth. Situated on a 5.8-acre lot, the 21,000-square-foot facility features a showroom, offices, and a warehouse area and has been designed to serve the Atlantic Canadian eventing community for years to come.

STRATFORD, ONT.: The Bruce Hotel in Stratford has received the coveted CAA/AAA Five Diamond designation, making it the only boutique hotel in Canada to hold the honor. The hotel previously held CAA/AAA Four Diamond since opening. To earn the distinctive AAA Five Diamond designation, hotels and restaurants must pass a rigorous evaluation that includes unannounced, in-person inspections; anonymous overnight stays for hotels; and a review by a panel of experts as an additional step to ensure credibility.

TORONTO: Chelsea Hotel, Toronto has gone through some exciting changes, including a $25 million refurbishment. The investment—the most extensive since 2013—included 600 guest rooms in the Executive Tower, corridors throughout the hotel, modernization, and refurbishment of the Executive Tower elevators. Additionally, there was a refurbishment of Market Garden Restaurant, including new carpet and furniture, while its full-service restaurant, Elm Street Bar & Lounge, underwent an expansion to double the seating capacity.

WHISTLER, B.C.: Nita Lake Lodge Resort & Spa received the prestigious No. 1 spot in Condé Nast Traveler's 2023 Readers Choice Awards for best resorts in Canada. The awards recognize excellence in the travel and hospitality industry, and this year, 526,518 readers from around the world shared their travel experiences, casting their votes for their favorite hotels, resorts, and destinations.
