Kristin Twombly, CMP, describes herself as hardworking, fun and blond. Learn more about her.
What I do: I’ve been managing and executing events for 15 years. Earlier this year, I accepted a job working to develop a Strategic Meeting Management Program for one division of my company. It’s been challenging working with a totally blank slate but also so exciting.
How I got here: After college, I was working a temp receptionist while applying to graduate school to get my Master’s Degree in Psychology. I offered to plan the company holiday party—an event that was almost as complex as a wedding with florals, entertainment, lighting, décor, travel, guest rooms, etc. The whole experience was much harder than I anticipated but I loved organizing it. The event was a success and the company offered me a full-time position as event coordinator. I have been doing this ever since.
Greatest career accomplishments: In June 2019, I accepted the Marketplace Excellence RISE Award at the MPI World Education Congress on behalf of MPI Southern California for a project I had worked on for several years. A few days later, I received the Meeting Professionals International Southern California Chapter Leader of the Year Award—two incredible honors in one week!
Specific improvement I’ve made: I’m implementing a project management software for event planners— no more tracking deliverables in excel spreadsheets!
What I am working on now: It’s been really exciting to start developing a Strategic Meeting Management Program for my new division. We are rethinking our entire approach to meeting and event-related initiatives, creating a strategy to increase business, analyze and reduce costs and offer a seamless experience for event attendees.
What I do outside of work: I am currently serving as the President Elect of MPI Southern California Chapter. I love to travel and explore different parts of the world. I am commissioner of a fantasy football league and a member of three different books clubs.
