June 26, 2013: Kenny Chesney Concert Leaves Giant Mess, Adviser to Michelle Obama Leaves for L'Oréal, Theater Audiences Grade Shows in Real Time

1. KENNY CHESNEY CONCERT LEAVES GIANT MESS: Summer concert favorite Kenny Chesney is known for a good show, but unruly fans at a recent Pittsburgh concert left Heinz Field trashed and racked up 49 arrests. CBS Pittsburgh: "Kenny Chesney fans also left a wake of trash following the concert. Large groups of tailgaters left behind a sea of debris in the Heinz Field parking lot. … In fact, the Chesney crowd has earned such a reputation that even police were hesitant to face the mess." http://cbsloc.al/18fHTfB

2. ADVISER TO FIRST LADY LEAVES FOR L'OREAL: First Lady Michelle Obama’s communications director is leaving her position to become chief communications officer at cosmetics giant L’Oréal USA. Washington Post: "[Kristina Schake] was a powerful behind-the-scenes advisor who made Obama even more popular than when she first came to Washington. Schake was part of the team who expanded the first lady’s traditional role to include 'mom dancing' on Jimmy Fallon’s show and presenting the best picture trophy at the Academy Awards." http://wapo.st/138aOBd

3. DEVICES CREATE REAL-TIME GRADING FOR BROADWAY-BOUND SHOWS: Before a theater production goes big-time, more producers are testing them with audiences who use handheld dials to indicate the parts they like and dislike. New York Times: "While the dials seem like a natural extension of focus groups, if not a more precise gauge of real-time audience reaction, several producers dismissed them as the most simplistic and desperate research tool yet, the enemy of groundbreaking work. Others, like Sue Frost, who used focus groups on her show Memphis—which won the best musical Tony in 2010—were intrigued but skeptical that dials would catch on among Broadway producers because the technology might make audiences 'so hypercritical that you get more data and opinions than are useful.'” http://nyti.ms/17f8uX5
