April 10, 2014: Inside a Surprise Party From the World’s Best Chefs, Apple Starts Lottery System for Worldwide Developers Conference, StubHub’s Music Festival Bucket List

1. INSIDE A SURPRISE PARTY FROM THE WORLD’S BEST CHEFS: Twenty chefs from around the world gathered in New York this week for a surpass party honoring molecular gastronomy pioneer Wylie Dufresne at his own restaurant, wd~50. The New Yorker: “They’d form cooking groups, pick their dishes, and converge at wd~50 on a Tuesday, when the restaurant was closed. At the appointed hour, someone would call Dufresne to inform him that the restaurant was flooded. When he came rushing over, he’d arrive to the party of his dreams." http://nyr.kr/1eaX1z3

2. APPLE STARTS LOTTERY SYSTEM FOR WORLDWIDE DEVELOPERS CONFERENCE: Apple is moving to a lottery system to allot tickets to this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, an event that last year sold out in less than two hours. Wired: “Over the past few years, demand for tickets for Apple’s developer conference has grown to epic proportions, leaving many longtime attendees sitting at home, sullenly watching conference proceedings on Apple’s website, or attending alternative, unofficial conference sessions held in the Bay Area. While plenty of devs still won’t be able to attend with the random ticket dispersement, the change at least gives them an equal chance of snagging one of the coveted $1,600 spots.” http://nyr.kr/1eaX1z3

3. STUBHUB’S MUSIC FESTIVAL BUCKET LIST: StubHub has ranked the hottest acts playing this summer’s biggest music festivals, ranked by which acts play the most festivals who have seen the most growth since their last tour. Outkast, Foster the People, and Luke Bryan top what the ticket reseller calls its “festival lineup bucket list.” The findings, drawn from StubHub’s own data, named Coachella this year’s top music festival—its sales are up 59 percent over last year—followed by Lollapalooza and CMA Music Fest.
