1. INSIDE THE WHITE HOUSE’S BIGGEST EVENT: The biggest annual event at the White House, surprisingly, is the Easter Egg Roll, which drew some 30,000 kids and parents to the South Lawn on Monday. This year’s theme was “Hop Into Healthy, Swing Into Shape.” Washington Post: “Attendees flocked between sports courts, cooking stations, storybook readings and craft areas. They could also take pictures with vegetable mascots, the Easter bunny, Spider-Man and the Minions from the animated movie Despicable Me.” http://wapo.st/1twFpSK
2. DISCOVERY CANCELS 'EVEREST JUMP LIVE': After the avalanche at Mt. Everest that killed 13 people, with three still missing, Discovery Channel has cancelled Everest Jump Live, which would have featured climber Joby Ogwyn leaping off the top of the mountain in a wingsuit. The May 11 event also would have included five nights of talk-show-style programming to promote the special. Entertainment Weekly: The network released this statement on Sunday: ‘In light of the overwhelming tragedy at Mt. Everest and respect for the families of the fallen, Discovery Channel will not be going forward with Everest Jump Live. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the whole Sherpa community.’” http://bit.ly/1i0SKhJ
3. COLORADO AND WASHINGTON STATE RALLY FOR MARIJUANA: The traditional date to celebrate all things cannabis—April 20, or 4/20—drew fans to rallies and concerts in Washington State and Colorado, both of which legalized possession and use of marijuana by adults on private property. The events still drew arrests, since public consumption remains illegal. Reuters: “Separately, the Cannabis Cup, a trade show sponsored by High Times magazine, drew sold-out crowds over the weekend at a Denver convention venue. The two-day event features marijuana sampling and workshops, such as how to open a pot shop, cultivation tips, and how to talk to children about weed, according to the event's website.” http://reut.rs/1jpXqK9
