CANADA: Modern Day Wife’s Virtual Event, Calgary’s Instagram-Friendly Park, El Mocambo's Reopening

NATIONAL: Canada-based brand Modern Day Wife will host its first virtual “Think Outside the Box” event on Sept. 24. The virtual gathering, which will focus on “short term goals, long term dreams,” will feature segments on business planning, plus a fall fashion and makeup segment, a mixology session, and more. Scheduled speakers include Rebecca Minkoff, Daphne Wayans, Sangita Patel, and Andrea Mundie.

CALGARY: Peer Park, a reimagined recreational space and parking lot in Inglewood, launched on Sept. 8. The brightly colored area, which can be rented for private events, includes a picnic table, a cellphone charging station, a free library, a basketball hoop, and more.

NORTH BAY, ONT.: Canadore College students are taking their annual Cystic Fibrosis Canada fundraiser online this year. On Sept. 13, the school’s student council is encouraging people to wash a vehicle, take a picture, and post it on social media with the hashtag #canadoreshinestogether. Participants will be entered in a draw for prizes. 

TORONTO: Toronto’s El Mocambo reopens today with a performance by rock band Big Wreck. The club has undergone $35 million in renovations; it now features a recording studio on the top floor, plus two stages for live performances as well as streaming shows, video shoots, weddings and live events, and more.

On Sept. 12 and 13, Street Eats Market is hosting the brand-new Mac and Cheese Fest from 12 to 8 p.m. Guests can try 25 different variations of the dish at the free event, which will be held at the Scarborough Town Centre. Social distancing measures will be in effect.
