NATIONAL: Art Toronto, Canada’s largest art fair, is taking place online from Oct. 28 to Nov. 8. This year’s show features art from more than 100 Canadian and international galleries and institutions, including the Monte Clark in Vancouver, the Trépanier Baer in Calgary, and the Bradley Ertaskiran in Montreal.
KELOWNA, BRITISH COLUMBIA: Wine & Pie, a Kelowna-based fundraiser that supports women and girls in need, will take place virtually Nov. 6. For the first time, the event has expanded to Vernon, British Columbia and Edmonton, with the goal of raising $30,000 for Her International, WIN House, and the Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society.
SUDBURY, ONTARIO: Celyne Marie is the new executive director of Northern Lights Festival Boréal, one of the country's oldest music and art festivals. The event was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19, but it is slated to hold its 50th edition July 8-11, 2021.
TORONTO: Historic live music venue Massey Hall has received a $5 million donation from the Slaight Family Foundation; the venue's auditorium will now be dedicated to Canadian broadcaster and philanthropist Allan Slaight. Massey Hall is currently undergoing the largest renovation in its 125-year history, including improvements to the interior and exterior, the return of the original stained-glass windows, and the addition of two new music venues.
VANCOUVER: The ninth annual Vancouver Polish Film Festival will take place at Rio Theatre Nov. 8. The festival, which celebrates the visual arts communities of Poland and Canada, moved to a smaller venue due to COVID-19 restrictions. The event is co-presented by SFU Woodward's Cultural Programs at Simon Fraser University.
