NATIONAL: Construction firm OMICRON is hosting its fifth annual Canada Protection Symposium virtually from Dec. 2-3. The event will focus on emerging technology in the electric power industry, with keynote speakers Francis Bradley of the Canadian Electricity Association and John McDonald of GE Grid Solutions.
TORONTO: After city officials temporarily closed outdoor dining, winter-themed pop-up Sweaters n’ Snowflakes has pivoted from a festive eating space to an outdoor to-go food market. Menu items will include wood-fired pizza and wintery cocktails, and socially distanced photo ops like a ski lift and a giant present will be available. It runs from Dec. 10-27.
The Toronto Zoo Holiday Drive-Thru opened this weekend and runs through Dec. 21. The experience, which lasts roughly 20 minutes and requires reservations, includes a 35-foot-tall Christmas tree, a holiday marketplace, and drive-by visits with Santa. Donations of non-perishable food and toys for families in need are being accepted.
VANCOUVER: The Westin Grand Vancouver Hotel will be rebranded in early 2021 as a Hilton property, under the name Hilton Vancouver Downtown. The 31-story tower has 207 guest rooms and a year-round outdoor pool.
Two Vancouver holiday events—The Festival of Lights at VanDusen Botanical Garden and Bright Lights at Stanley Park—have been postponed to Dec. 8 due to new public health orders. Both events are offering refunds or date changes.
