NATIONAL: As of Jan. 11, PSAV has officially rebranded and will now operate under the name of Encore. The rebrand aims to more accurately represent the company’s services and to promote its enhanced hybrid event solutions.
The second edition of Spark of Change, a virtual conference for event professionals, will take place Jan. 27. Focused on the world of online event management, the event will focus on technology, audience engagement and effective event management. It’s being organized by OES and powered by KDK Events, Eventy Online and Otako Studio.
CALGARY: Plans are being finalized to host the 2021 freestyle ski, snowboard and freeski world championships from Feb. 19 to the middle of March at Canada Olympic Park. Canada’s snowboard and freestyle organizations are working with the Canadian government to establish “bubble” protocols.
TORONTO: W Hotel Toronto, the city’s first W Hotel property, is slated for an April opening at the Hudson Bay Centre complex on Bloor Street. It’s a modernization of the shuttered Bloor Yorkville Marriott Hotel, and it will feature a new textured facade, exterior elevator and bar and restaurant. Inside, the 255-room hotel is getting a $40 million facelift, which includes 4,800 square feet of event space.
VANCOUVER: The inaugural Sci-Fi Summit comes to Vancouver from July 16-18, featuring speakers such as William Shatner, Jeri Ryan and Marina Sirtis as well as performances, Q&As and vendor space. The new event comes from Creation Entertainment, which has planned previous Star Trek-related events in the Vancouver area.
