CANADA: Calgary’s City-Wide Scavenger Hunt, Vancouver’s Virtual Comic Arts Festival and More

NATIONAL: Heart & Stroke's primary fundraising event, the Manulife Heart & Stroke Ride for Heart, will take place virtually for the second time on June 6. Participants are asked to ride, walk or run to raise funds for heart disease and stroke research; a new app will help them set challenges and meet both fitness and fundraising goals. Since 1988, the event has raised over $77 million.

CALGARY: Parks Foundation Calgary and PlayCity are hosting a 10-week-long, city-wide scavenger hunt. The event, which started May 8, is releasing new clues every Saturday that hint at the location of postcards hidden in various green spaces throughout Calgary. The goal is to invoke memories of travel and also help Calgarians connect outdoors and enjoy lesser-known parks.

LAMBTON-KENT, ONTARIO: Ride Don’t Hide, a cycling event to raise awareness and money for the Canadian Mental Health Association of Lambton-Kent that’s now the largest mental health bike ride in Canada, is going virtual this year. Taking place over the entire month of June, participants are encouraged to set their own physical and mental health goals for the month and track progress on a personal page.

TORONTO: The University of the West Indies has announced that hip-hop artist Shaggy will perform at the school's Virtual Toronto Benefit Awards 2021, taking place May 22. The event supports the university’s scholarship fund and honors leaders of Canadian and Caribbean heritage; since its inception, the Toronto awards have provided over 600 scholarships.

VANCOUVER: The Vancouver Comic Arts Festival will take place virtually this year from May 17-23. The gathering will feature workshops, panels, interviews, podcasts, tutorials and readings, with spotlights on Jaime Blankinship, Lee Lai, Shira Spector, Keith Knight, Wing Pexin and more.
