CANADA: The Latest Industry Acquisitions, a 'Mario Kart' Experience, an Indie Music Block Party and More

NATIONAL: Event experience operating system Bizzabo has acquired Klik, a Montreal-based event tech start-up that provides smart wearable tech to power on-site experiences, allowing planning to easily measure attendee engagement, participation and networking. The wearables can also trigger customized recommendations on content, networking opportunities, sponsors to visit and more. Klik’s team will now be based out of Bizzabo’s newly opened Montreal office; it’s Bizzabo’s fourth acquisition in six months.

McVeigh Global Meetings and Events (MGME) has acquired Prime Event Partners, a 30-year-old event-management company with offices in Vancouver and Toronto. Prime will continue to operate under its own name, though it will be considered a wholly-owned subsidiary of MGME. In other MGME news, the company has added Alissa Hurley to its team as vice president of Canada.

MONTREAL: Sports complex Combat d’Archers is letting guests live out their Mario Kart dreams via its new go-kart track, which acts as a replica of the popular Nintendo game—complete with the original soundtrack, plush versions of turtle shells and banana peels, character-themed karts and helmets, and other fun details. For events, packages for up to 10 players cost $250 and offer access to a party room after the racing session.

TORONTO: Indie music label ArtHaus Music will host its annual Block Party on Nov. 27 to showcase artists from its label. Typically held just for industry professionals, this year the event will be open to the public. It will feature a music showcase as well as an artisan market featuring local artists and designers, and it will be held in a former church in the Junction Triangle. Tickets for the all-day event cost $20.

Nadia Di Donato, vice president and creative director at Liberty Entertainment Group, recently received three awards from the LIV Hospitality Design Awards, winning for her design work at restaurants inside Toronto's Casa Loma. Liberty Group’s BlueBlood Steakhouse was named a winner in the Interior Design, Historic & Heritage category, while Don Alfonso 1890 was named a winner in the Interior Design, Pop Up Bar & Restaurant as well as the Interior Design, Historic & Heritage categories.
