NATIONAL: The Events Industry Council has launched its new quarterly Global Business Events Barometer, which monitors the changes within the market relative to pre-pandemic levels. The first results from the barometer show a significant increase in global group demand during Q3 2021, with RFP activity and hotel group room nights increasing 124.4% and 68.8%, respectively. The strongest hotel group room demand was reported in the Middle East, Asia Pacific and North America.
Business hospitality company Convene has promoted Amy Pooser to president and global chief operating officer. Pooser was instrumental in the evolution of Convene’s virtual and hybrid services, now known as Convene Studio. In addition, Patrick Convoy is Convene’s new head of technology, while Lizzie Suiter is head of corporate strategy.
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA: Marriott Anchorage Downtown has completed a full-scale renovation of its guest rooms, public spaces, dining outlets and event space. The 392-room hotel, located in the heart of Anchorage’s downtown district, has 15,000 square feet of event space spread across six function rooms.
LOS ANGELES: Hilton has announced Adam Heffron as the general manager of the new 305-room Conrad Los Angeles, scheduled to open in spring 2022 as Conrad Hotels & Resorts’ first hotel in California. Heffron previously served as general manager of the Waldorf Astoria Park City in Utah. Part of The Grand LA and designed by Frank Gehry, the Conrad Los Angeles will have a 16,000-square-foot rooftop terrace and 12,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
OAKLAND, CALIF: After a two-year hiatus, the 54th California International Antiquarian Book Fair will return from Feb. 11-13 at the Oakland Marriott City Center. The three-day book fair features the collections of 120 booksellers from around the world, plus an interactive exhibition showcasing local artists and organizations specializing in book arts.
